Plasma Bio-Filler

Plasma bio-filler is an autologous treatment — meaning it is made from YOUR own blood. A blood sample is drawn, processed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma component, and the plasma is then gelled (typically through controlled heat or a proprietary gelling protocol depending on the kit used) into a thicker, filler-like consistency. The resulting gel is injected into target areas to provide volume PLUS the growth factors naturally present in plasma. Unlike synthetic hyaluronic acid or PLLA fillers, plasma bio-filler contains no foreign substance — every molecule originated in your own body.

Plasma bio-filler kits used in UK clinics (such as Regen ACR, plasma gel systems, and similar CE-marked products) are regulated medical devices. The process is performed in clinic from blood drawn during the same visit — the product is not stored, shipped, or shared between patients. Because the product is autologous, allergic-reaction risk is essentially zero. As with any injectable, contraindications apply and are screened during consultation.

Both come from your own blood and both contain platelet-derived growth factors. The key difference is consistency: PRP is a relatively thin liquid (golden plasma) used for topical application after microneedling, for hair scalp injections, or for fine-needle injection. Plasma bio-filler is GELLED into a thicker, more cohesive consistency — closer to a soft HA filler — which means it can hold structural shape and act as a volumiser in addition to delivering growth factors. PRP supports skin and hair quality; plasma bio-filler does that PLUS gives subtle volume restoration.

Plasma bio-filler is well-suited to subtle, naturalistic volume restoration in delicate areas where synthetic fillers are riskier or feel too firm: under-eye hollows and tear troughs (particularly when patients have had bad experiences with HA in this area), nasolabial folds, and overall skin quality improvement on the cheeks and lower face. It is also used on the back of the hands. It is NOT a substitute for cohesive HA filler when significant structural volume or definition is needed — plasma bio-filler is the gentler, more biological choice.

Most patients see visible results lasting 3–9 months from a single session — significantly shorter than synthetic HA filler (typically 6–12 months) because the gelled plasma is metabolised by the body more rapidly. The trade-off is the gentler, more naturalistic effect. The growth-factor-driven skin quality improvement may persist beyond the visible volume effect because of the collagen-supportive signalling. Maintenance is typically every 6–9 months.

Comfort levels depend on the area being treated. We apply topical anaesthetic cream 20–30 minutes before treatment, and the plasma itself can be combined with lidocaine before injection if the area is sensitive. The under-eye area is more sensitive; the nasolabial folds and cheeks are typically very tolerable. The blood draw at the start of the procedure is a routine venepuncture — same as a standard blood test.

Yes — immediate volume change is visible at the time of injection. Some early swelling resolves over 3–5 days, so the precise final shape settles after the first week. The growth-factor-supported collagen and skin-quality improvement continues to develop over 4–6 weeks. The peak combined effect is usually visible at around 6 weeks, after which the volume gradually fades over months while some skin-quality gains may persist longer.

Treatment is contraindicated for: pregnancy or breastfeeding; active infection or illness including fever; blood disorders or conditions affecting platelet function; current anticoagulant medication; active skin infection at the planned treatment site; autoimmune conditions that may affect healing; recent use of corticosteroids or immunosuppressive drugs; and anaemia or very low platelet count (because the plasma processed from your blood needs sufficient platelet content to be effective).
