Hair Exosomes

Exosomes are much more potent and consistent than PRP, providing a higher concentration of growth signals.

Exosomes are nanoscale extracellular vesicles released by cells, carrying signalling molecules (proteins, peptides, growth factors). ASCE+ uses plant-derived (rose stem cell) exosomes formulated for scalp application. Because exosomes do not penetrate intact skin effectively on their own, they are typically delivered via two methods: microneedling the scalp first to create micro-channels, then applying the exosomes topically; OR fine-needle injection into the scalp where the active formulation is placed at the follicle level. INNODERM uses both approaches depending on the protocol.

Exosome therapy is a relatively new aesthetic modality, and the regulatory landscape around exosome-based products is still evolving in the UK and EU. ASCE+ is one of the most widely used formulations in clinical settings and is CE-marked as a cosmetic. As with any emerging modality, the long-term clinical evidence base is still building. Early peer-reviewed evidence for exosome therapy in androgenetic alopecia is promising but limited compared to PRP and minoxidil — both of which have larger and longer-term clinical datasets. We are honest that exosomes are a leading-edge treatment with growing but not yet definitive evidence specifically for hair. Patient response varies and outcomes depend on the cause of hair loss, the stage at which treatment begins, and adherence to the recommended course. We do not promise hair regrowth; we offer the modality as part of a considered plan.

They are different tools, each with trade-offs. PRP is autologous (made from your own blood), so allergy risk is essentially zero and your body fully recognises every molecule — but the active platelet quality varies between patients. Exosomes are factory-prepared with consistent batch-to-batch quality and no blood draw — but the evidence base specifically for hair is less established. PRP is typically less expensive per session because no commercial product is sourced. Some practitioners stack the two across sessions for layered effect. The right choice depends on your hair-loss pattern, comfort with a blood draw, budget, and how comfortable you are with a newer modality versus a more established one.

A standard course is 3–4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 4–6 months. Visible improvements typically build between months 1–3 — initially earlier scalp comfort and reduced shedding, then progressive thickening and density gains. Stopping maintenance gradually allows the supportive signal to fade and underlying hair loss to resume; like PRP, exosome therapy is not a one-time cure.

Yes — multimodal management is standard for androgenetic alopecia. Common combinations: exosomes + minoxidil (topical, non-prescription); exosomes + finasteride/dutasteride (oral prescription, requires medical screening, men only); exosomes alternating with PRP across sessions; exosomes alongside hair mesotherapy nutrient cocktails. We may also recommend you see your GP for blood tests to check for underlying contributors (iron, ferritin, vitamin D, thyroid) before or during your course.

Very little. Some patients have mild scalp redness or tenderness for the first few hours; this typically settles within 24 hours. You can return to normal activities immediately. The main aftercare requirements are: do not wash your hair for 24 hours to allow the exosomes to be absorbed; avoid intense exercise, saunas, and direct sun exposure on the scalp for 48 hours; skip styling products for 24 hours; do not colour or chemically treat your hair for 2 weeks.

Treatment is contraindicated for: pregnancy or breastfeeding; active scalp infection or severe dermatitis; known allergy to any component of the exosome solution; active cancer or undergoing chemotherapy; severe immunosuppressive conditions; uncontrolled systemic illness; open wounds or lesions on the scalp; and bleeding disorders without medical clearance.
