Treatment is paused or alternative approaches recommended when any of the following apply: active suntan or recent unprotected sun exposure (4-week minimum wait); pregnancy or breastfeeding; currently taking photosensitising medications including certain antibiotics; active skin infection in the treatment area; current anticoagulant therapy without medical clearance (because of bruising risk); use of isotretinoin in the past 6 months; history of light-triggered seizure disorders; and very dark skin tones require tailored consultation before any BBL/IPL is attempted.
