Hair PRP

It is most effective for those in the early stages of thinning. It cannot regrow hair in completely bald areas.

Platelets contain a concentrated cocktail of growth factors — proteins that signal cells to repair and regenerate. When concentrated PRP is injected into the scalp at the hair follicle level, those growth factors are believed to support follicle vitality, prolong the active growth (anagen) phase of the hair cycle, and reactivate miniaturised follicles that haven't fully shed. The result, when the treatment works, is increased hair density (more hairs per area) and thicker individual hair shafts — not new follicles from scratch. PRP is best understood as supportive therapy for existing follicles.

There is growing peer-reviewed evidence that PRP can improve hair density in androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss), particularly when started in EARLY-to-MODERATE stages — before significant follicle loss has occurred. Response varies materially between patients based on the cause of hair loss, age, sex, hormone status, and how soon treatment begins. PRP does not regrow lost hair from completely dead follicles. We are honest about this: PRP is not guaranteed to work for everyone, and the right candidate selection is part of getting a meaningful result.

Three steps: (1) blood draw — typically 10–20 ml from a vein in your arm; (2) processing in a centrifuge using sterile RegenLab tubes which concentrate the platelets while removing red blood cells; (3) scalp injection — small amounts of the resulting golden plasma are injected into the scalp across the thinning areas using a fine needle, with topical anaesthetic applied beforehand. Total appointment is around 60 minutes. INNODERM uses RegenLab Swiss CE-marked PRP kits specifically for their reproducibility between sessions.

A standard course is 3–4 sessions spaced approximately 4 weeks apart, followed by maintenance every 4–6 months. Visible improvement is typically seen after the second or third session, with continued progress for several months after the final session as the hair cycle responds. Stopping maintenance generally causes the gains to fade over 6–12 months — PRP is not a one-time cure.

Hair transplant surgery (FUE or FUT) physically moves hair follicles from a donor area (typically the back of the scalp) to thinning areas — it adds new follicles to your scalp. PRP supports the follicles you already have but does not create new ones. The two are complementary rather than competing: PRP is often used to maintain donor and recipient sites BEFORE and AFTER hair transplant surgery to optimise survival and growth. INNODERM does not perform hair transplant surgery; for that we would refer you to a specialist transplant centre.

PRP uses your own blood (autologous, zero allergy risk) — but platelet quality varies between patients and sessions. Exosomes (ASCE+) are factory-prepared from plant sources with consistent batch quality and no blood draw, but they are a newer modality with less long-term clinical evidence specifically for hair. PRP is typically less expensive per session because no commercial product is sourced. Some patients combine the two across sessions for layered effect. The right choice depends on your hair-loss pattern, your comfort with a blood draw, your budget, and the evidence base you want behind your treatment.

Topical anaesthetic cream applied 20–30 minutes before treatment significantly reduces sensation. Most patients describe the scalp injections as mild pricks with occasional sharper points — typically 4–5/10 on a pain scale. The scalp can feel more sensitive than facial skin because the tissue is tighter, but the small injection volumes per spot keep individual sensations brief. There is no significant discomfort after the session.

Common combinations: PRP + minoxidil (topical, prescription-free); PRP + finasteride/dutasteride (oral prescription medication, men only, requires medical screening); PRP + hair mesotherapy; PRP + nutrient/supplement support based on blood tests for iron, ferritin, vitamin D, thyroid.
