Hyaluronic acid lip fillers typically last 6–12 months, depending on the product used, the volume placed, your metabolism, and how active your lips are (lip movement, eating, drinking, kissing all break down filler over time). Lighter, more elastic formulations placed for subtle definition tend to break down faster than fuller-volume placements. Most patients are happy with one top-up every 9–12 months.

Most first-time lip filler sessions use between 0.5 ml and 1 ml of product — chosen based on your starting anatomy, the look you are going for, and your practitioner's clinical judgement. Conservative dosing is good practice: it is always possible to add more at a top-up if you want, but harder to undo over-volumising. We prefer to build progressively across sessions rather than overload in one go.

Modern HA lip fillers, placed by an experienced injector with attention to facial proportion, can deliver natural-looking enhancement that moves with your expressions and feels soft. The "fake" look is usually a result of three things together: too much product, all at once, in mobile areas (like the body of the lip) using a firmer product designed for cheek or jaw lift. We use softer lip-specific formulations and conservative dosing to avoid this.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved using an enzyme called hyaluronidase. The procedure is quick, performed in clinic, and reverses the effect of the filler within a few days. This is one of the safety advantages of HA fillers over other categories. INNODERM offers a separate `filler-removal` treatment specifically for patients seeking dissolution. Dissolving is appropriate for unsatisfying results, asymmetry, migration, or in the rare case of a vascular complication.

Modern HA lip fillers contain lidocaine in the formulation, which provides immediate local numbing as injection proceeds. In addition, we apply a strong topical anaesthetic cream 20–30 minutes before treatment, and for some patients a dental nerve block can be added for full comfort. Most patients describe the experience as manageable rather than painful — but you will always be asked about your comfort during the procedure.

Avoid lip filler if you have an active cold sore — the injection can trigger a flare. If you have a history of frequent cold sores, request prophylactic antiviral medication in advance of treatment. Time any major dental work either 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after your lip filler appointment (bacteria from oral procedures can seed into freshly placed filler). And for any significant event (wedding, photoshoot, holiday), book your lip filler at least 2 weeks beforehand so swelling has fully resolved and your final result is visible.

Hyaluronic acid is a biocompatible molecule that your body breaks down naturally over months. If you stop having lip filler, your lips will gradually return to their pre-treatment state as the product is metabolised — they will NOT look worse than before, but they will not maintain the enhanced look without ongoing top-ups. Some patients top up every 6–9 months; others do one session and decide they prefer their natural look. The decision is always yours.

Yes — these are all common and clinically appropriate uses of lip fillers when assessed alongside your overall facial anatomy. Asymmetry is corrected by precise differential placement on the lighter side. Smoker's lines (peri-oral fine lines) can be smoothed with very small amounts of softer HA placed superficially around the lip border — often in combination with skin boosters or anti-wrinkle injections nearby. Downturned mouth corners can be lifted by structural placement at the oral commissures. Each is a clinical decision made during consultation.
