BBL HEROic and other broadband-light devices require careful assessment on Fitzpatrick IV and above. Higher melanin levels increase the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation if device settings are not adapted. At INNODERM your practitioner will assess your Fitzpatrick type during consultation, may recommend a test patch, and will adjust fluence and pulse settings — or recommend an alternative such as Morpheus8 RF microneedling — if photothermal risk is judged elevated. Following BBL HEROic, pigmented lesions on the skin surface often appear temporarily darker (described as a "coffee ground" appearance) for the first 3–7 days before flaking away naturally. This is the photothermal effect lifting damaged pigment to the surface. It is essential not to pick or scrub the darkened spots — let them shed on their own and protect the skin with broad-spectrum SPF.

Autumn and winter months are generally preferred because lower UV exposure reduces the risk of post-treatment pigmentation rebound and makes the strict SPF aftercare easier to maintain. That said, BBL HEROic can be delivered year-round if you are committed to consistent broad-spectrum SPF 50 use and avoid direct sun exposure on treated areas. For darker skin tones, pigmented concerns, or melasma, your practitioner may recommend 2–4 weeks of pre-treatment topical preparation — typically a brightening or pigment-stabilising regime such as ZO Skin Health — to reduce the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation and improve final outcomes.
