Before / After

Preparation for the treatment

    • Avoid sun exposure and tanning: stay out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds for 2-4 weeks before treatment. Sun exposure increases the risk of pigmentation changes;
    • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily, especially on areas to be treated;
    • Stop using self-tanning products: any self-tanning lotions or sprays for at least 2 weeks before treatment, as these products can interfere with the laser’s effectiveness;
    • Avoid retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and exfoliants for at least 7-10 days prior to treatment to reduce skin sensitivity;
    • Refrain from using acne treatments or products with benzoyl peroxide one week before your appointment;
    • Pause photosensitizing medications and supplements. If you are on photosensitizing medications (like certain antibiotics or isotretinoin), consult your doctor about pausing them at least 2 weeks before your appointment;
    • Avoid blood-thinning supplements like fish oil, garlic, ginkgo, and vitamin E a week prior to treatment, as these can increase the risk of bruising;
    • Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications like aspirin for 48 hours before treatment to minimize bruising;
    • Ensure that you have disclosed any medical conditions, medications, recent skin treatments, or allergies to your practitioner;
    • Prepare for possible downtime: schedule your appointment on a day when you can avoid excessive sun exposure, heat, and physical activity for 24-48 hours after treatment;
    • Stay hydrated: drinking plenty of water before and after treatment can support skin healing and recovery.

Aftercare

    • Avoid sun exposure: protect the treated area from direct sunlight for 7-10 days after treatment to prevent pigmentation changes;
    • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily, reapplying every 2 hours if outdoors. Wear a hat and clothing to further protect treated areas;
    • Use gentle skin care products: cleanse the treated skin with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and apply a hydrating, non-comedogenic moisturizer to keep the area moisturized;
    • Avoid using exfoliants, retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and other harsh ingredients for at least 7-10 days post-treatment to prevent irritation;
    • Avoid heat and sweating: for 48 hours after treatment, avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and strenuous exercise, as excessive heat can increase redness and swelling;
    • Cool the skin if necessary: if you experience any warmth, redness, or mild discomfort, apply a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth to the area for 10-15 minutes at a time;
    • Avoid makeup: if possible, avoid wearing makeup on the treated area for the first 24-48 hours. Once the skin has calmed, you may use clean, non-irritating makeup;
    • Do not pick or scratch the skin: dark spots, minor flaking, or scabbing may appear as part of the healing process. Allow them to flake off naturally to avoid scarring or pigmentation issues;
    • Stay hydrated: drinking water supports the body’s natural healing processes and can help your skin recover faster;
    • Monitor for any unusual reactions: mild redness and swelling are normal and should resolve within a few days. If you experience excessive swelling, blistering, intense pain, or signs of infection, contact your provider immediately;
    • Plan for maintenance: to maintain results, avoid excessive sun exposure, continue using SPF daily, and schedule any follow-up treatments your provider recommends for lasting firmness and skin health.
