Preparation for the treatment

    • Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for 2-4 weeks prior to treatment to reduce pigmentation risks;
    • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily if you will be outdoors;
    • Discontinue self-tanning lotions or sprays at least 2 weeks before your appointment, as these products can interfere with the laser’s efficacy;
    • Avoid using retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, and other exfoliants for 7-10 days before treatment;
    • Refrain from using acne treatments or benzoyl peroxide products for at least a week;
    • Consult with your doctor about pausing photosensitizing medications (e.g., certain antibiotics or isotretinoin) at least 2 weeks before the procedure;
    • Avoid supplements that thin the blood (e.g., fish oil, garlic, ginkgo, vitamin E) for a week before treatment;
    • Refrain from alcohol and blood-thinning substances like aspirin for 48 hours before treatment;
    • Inform your practitioner of any medical conditions, medications, recent skincare treatments, or allergies;
    • Plan for temporary redness and swelling after the treatment; take it easy for a day or two if needed;
    • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your treatment to keep your skin hydrated.

Aftercare

    • Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 7-10 days after treatment to prevent pigmentation changes;
    • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily, reapplying every 2 hours if outdoors. Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect treated areas;
    • Cleanse with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and use a hydrating, non-comedogenic moisturizer;
    • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids (like AHAs/BHAs), and other harsh ingredients for at least 1 week to prevent irritation;
    • Cool the skin if needed. If the treated area feels warm or sensitive, apply a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a clean cloth for 10-15 minutes every few hours on the day of treatment;
    • Avoid applying ice directly to the skin, as this may cause irritation;
    • Refrain from hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 48 hours post-treatment, as excessive heat can increase redness and swelling;
    • Dark spots or tiny crusts may form on treated vessels as they heal; let these naturally flake off over the next 1-2 weeks. Picking at them can lead to scarring or infection;
    • Avoid wearing makeup on the treated area until any redness or sensitivity has subsided (typically 24 hours). Once the skin feels comfortable, ensure makeup brushes are clean to avoid irritation or infection;
    • Drinking plenty of water will help with skin healing and overall recovery;
    • Mild redness, swelling, and sensitivity are normal and should subside within a few days;
    • Continue using sunscreen long-term: to maintain results, continue using SPF daily, even after the healing phase, as sun exposure can lead to new vessel formation and pigmentation changes;
    • Follow your provider’s recommendations for any follow-up treatments, as multiple sessions are often needed for optimal results.
